Shoe Bop
I liked this book because it was about shoes, my favorite thing in the world. I thought that the book did a great job incoporating all different types of shoes in the book. I also thought that the poems that were written about them were very cute. One thing that I really enjoyed about this book was the way that the author tied the poems together to form a complete story. It did not feel like I was just reading a different poem each time but more like a continuation of the story. I think that this book would be a book that students would enjoy because just about every one has been through a situation where they are looking for perfect shoes and just cant seem to find them.
Love That Dog
This book was interesting. It was my first time ever reading a novel that was written in poetry form. I love poetry so this book was right up my alley. Although I liked the fact that it was written in poetry, I thought that at times I was a little confused about what was going on because everything didn't fit perfectly together like they do in a regular novel. I would love to see how the book would turn out if the author took time and revamped it to be just another novel. I think it would be easier to get more detail in the book but then again the author wrote it in poetry form because that is probably how they pictured the story. I would have this book in my classroom for students to read so that they could experiance a different type of genre that I didnt know was out there.

A Year of Impossible Goodbyes
I really enjoyed this book, although I found it really hard to get into. I thought that So Far From the Bamboo Grove was able to better grasp my attention. I think that this book may have moved along a little slower because it was over a longer period of time than the events that were going on in the other book. I still enjoyed the book almost just as much as the other one. I thought it was interesting to get the other side of the story. Although I really liked hearing the other side of the story, it was really hard for me to get my mind to register that everything was flipped flopped in this story from the other story. That was probably the thing I had the most trouble with.
Midterm Reflection
I have really enjoyed the class so far. I really like reading all the different children's books and getting exposed to all the different things that are out there. I must say that before this class I was not aware of all the different types of things that were out there for children to read. One thing that I must say is that I am not a huge fan of blogging. I feel like when I am reading the books I have to look for things to write about instead of just enjoying the book. Although I am not a huge fan of blogging, I do like having the opportunity to read what other people have to say about the books they are reading, so I am actually happy that we do have to blog.

Picky Mrs. Pickle
I thought that this book did a good job trying to show that it is not a bad idea to try new things. While reading this book, I could picture myself as being Mrs. Pickle. I am usually not the person to try new things and I like to stick to the things that I know because I know that I like them. I think because I was able to relate to the main character in the book it made the book more interesting to me.
Detective LaRue: Letters from the Investigation
I really enjoyed this book and would like to have it in my own classroom one day. I really liked the formatt of the book. I liked that it was written like acutal letters and newspaper articles. My favorite thing about this book was the way the pictures and the story went together. I thought that it was funny that the dog was writing as if he was having a hard time and picturing in his head (the black and white pictures) something totally different that what was actually happening (the colored pictures). I though that this added more comedy to an already funny story.
Shouting
I was extremely excited when I found this book on the shelf. I had never encountered a book about a black church before so I was really interested in how this book was going to be written. I really liked the story and the fact that it was kind of written in a poem formatt. I thought that this was an interesting twist that I was not expecting. I also found it interesting that none of the people in the books had faces, they were just heads, bodies and clothes. I am not sure why the illustrator chose to do it like this but I would be interested in finding out. I thought that this book did a good job of depicting one of the things that goes on inside an African American church. I myself always wondered where this thing of shouting came from and I thought that this book did a good job explaining it. This is definately one of the books that I would like to have in my classroom.
Saxophone Sam and His Snazzy Jazz Band
The thing that caught my interest with this book is the title and the cover of the book. I absolutely love music and I knew that this book had something to do with music. It was to my suprise that when I opened the book the story was actually written like a song. I thought that this made the book much more interesting and exciting. I also liked that there was a mystery going on in the book that the reader had to catch on to. I myself did not realize what was going on until then end and I was completely taken by suprise. I also liked how the pictures in the book also told a story. At the beginning of the book the picture was mainly of the kids who were trying the find the band and as they got closer to finding the band the pictures began to be mainly of the band. I thought that this was very clever and unique of the illustrator.
Camilla's New Hairdo
I really enjoyed the pictures in this book, especially the ones with the crazy different hairdos. I found this to be extremely funny because I iknow people who love to try different things with their hair and although they may not be as drastic as making an airplane out of their hair like Camilla does in the book, they are quite interesting sometimes. One complaint that I have about the book is that the story did not seem to fit together. I could see where the author was going with the book but I felt like there were a lot of holes in the places where the book should have been tied together. I think for that reason, I could not fully enjoy the actual story that was being told in the book.
The Misfits
I really enjoyed this book although I thought that I would not like it when I first picked it up. It just did not seem like a book that I would be interested in and it was definately not a book that I would have chosen for myself, so in that sense I am grateful that we were required to read this book. This book opened my eyes to a lot of the things that go on in the middle and high school years that I never had to deal with personally. I was never really picked on or bullied in school and im sure that this had a lot to do with the fact that I went to school with all of my cousins so therefore I did not have to venture out much to try and make friends. Although none of this stuff happened to me personally, I did know people that things like this happened to and I found myself inserting those people and their faces in for the characters. I found this book to be really easy to relate to and I think that students would enjoy this book, even if they had not had any experiences like the ones in the story.

This Book is Haunted
This is a great book to use during Halloween time. Although I was a little suprised that the book was not an acutal picture book but a picture book made up of many different stories. I thought that this helped keep me interested in the book because it was not just one story that I had to keep reading about. I also thought that the pictures and the colors were very good and the popped off the page.
So Far From The Bamboo Grove
This is definately one of the best books that I have ever read. I really didnt know much about the issues that were going on in the book and I think it is best that I didnt know. I think it really helped me get into the story more because I did not come to the book with my own opinions formed already. I thought that many parts of the story were ver graphic, but I think that is what makes the book so great. I know that many teachers want to shield there students from things like the ones that are presented in the book, but the reality is that things like these do happen all the time, especially in a time of war. I think that it is good to expose children to reality and prepare them for the world that they are going to be living in, instead of sending them out under false prentions like the world is always a happy place. I do believe that there is a place to draw the line when it comes to the things that you tell children, but I think that this book walk that line in the best so of way. We all have these ideas of what a child is supposed to be like and what they can handle but I believe that children can handle more than we give them credit for and that is something that we must always remember.
Inventor McGregor
I am not sure how I feel about this book. I think I like parts of it but other parts I believe were boring to me. The beginning of the book was definately my favorite. I felt like there were a lot of different things going on that kept me interested. All the different types of inventions and their uses was very interesting to me. As it got to the middle of the book, I noticed that I was not as interested as I was before. I think it was because there was not a lot, in my opinion, going on in the middle of the book that would keep someones attention. I think this really ruined the end of the book for me also because once I was bored with the book, it made me not even want to finish it so I just rushed through it so that I could finish it.
Raising Dragons
My favorite thing about this book was the pictures by far, especially the front cover. I thought that they were really cute. I really enjoyed the colors and just the overall way that the pictures were drawn. I also thought that the story itself was really cute. It made me think about myself as a child and how I loved to take care of puppies and kittens. I thought that this book would be really good to show students that friendships can be made anywhere between any people regarless of what others have to say or think about the situation.
Somewhere in Africa
I thought that this was a really cute book. I really liked the fact that the book had a twist to it, although I am still not sure about exactly how the book ends. Throughout the whole book the reader is made to believe that Ashraf lives in Africa but when the reader gets to the end of the book they find out that Ashraf himself is only reading a book about Africa. The thing that confuses me about this twist is that I am not sure if Ashraf actually lives in Africa and is just reading about the parts that he knows nothing about or if he does not live in Africa at all and just gets so deeply involved with the book that it is like he is living there. I thought that this could confuse a reader and possibly make the reader not want to read the book again because it would be hard for them to re-tell the story or show comprehension of the story.
The Queens Feet
I really enjoyed reading this book. I thought it was a funny book that a student could read just for enjoyment. I also really liked the illustrations that were done in the book. I thought that it was very creative that throughout the whole book you never saw the queen's face, only her feet. I really liked this concept, because the title of the book is clearly about the queen's feet and not the queen herself. I also liked that the book showed interactions between feet as if they were peoople. The reader never gets to see the face of the other characters in the book, just their feet.

If A Bus Coould Talk: The Story of Rosa Parks
This was the first book that I read by Faith Ringgold and I absoulutely loved it. I thought that it was a really creative idea to take the story of Rosa Parks and talk about it from the perspective of the bus. I also really enjoyed the art work and the fact that she switched up where the text would be on the pages. I actually used this book in a second grade classroom paired with a rap song that I found about Rosa Parks and the students really enjoyed the lesson. I did not hear any groans about already knowing who Rosa Parks was or anything like that. I believe that they enjoyed the lesson so much because it was a new way for looking at the story of Rosa Parks.
My Dream of Martin Luther King
I really enjoyed reading this book. I found it very interesting how Faith Ringgold incorporated facts into the story, which is something that I have learned that she is able to do well. I think that she is probably one of the best authors there is when it comes to writing children's books about events in history. I also really liked the fact that there was a timeline of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr's life at the end of the book. I thought that this would be a very useful tool in the classroom for further studying of Dr. King's life.

Tar Beach
The borders around the pictures were very interesting to me. I really liked that they looked like a quilt. I also enjoyed the way the paintings were done in this book. One of the things that I noticed about this book was the fact that it had facts about different things throughout the book. I thought that this would be a very effective way for students to learn history without realizing that they are learning history. Many of the times students believe that history is boring and has too many things to remember but I thought that this book did a good job at presenting history in a fun way and making it not seem so intimidating.
The Invisible Princess
This book was great because it was a book about an African American Princess which there are not many books about. I also liked this book because it made an attempt to show the hardships of slavery and the types of things the slaves had to sacafice in order to survive. One of the things that I found interesting about this book was the hidden religious aspect. In my mind all of the characters such as the Prince of Night and the Lady of Peace seemed as if they could be gods and the palce of freedom, peace and love seemed like it could be considered heaven. I also found myself thinking that the place of freedom, peace and love could be a representation for how we as Americans one day hope the United States will become and Faith Ringgold just put it on paper.
Dinner at Aunt Connie's House
After reading this book it has become one of my new favorite books. I really enjoyed the pictures and the way that they were painted. Im not really sure what it was about the pictures that I liked so much but they just seemed real appealing to my eyes. I also loved this book because it discussed African American women who have made a contribution to the world in some way. I have not run across any other books like this one so I thought that it was very interesting. Some of the women discussed were even new to me, so I thought that students would like this book because it gives some variety on the people who are studied instead of the same ones who are always in books. I also thought that this book had a hidden message from Faith Ringgold. Since she is an illustrator first, I found it very funny that she would use paintings and give personify them. I thought that this was her way of showing students that anything can have a lot to say even if it cannot verbally speak. I thought that this was very creative.
Aunt Harriet's Underground Railroad in the Sky
I thought that this book did a good job at simplifying the underground railroad for students. I thought that this book would be a good one to use when trying to explain the underground railroad to younger and even older students. I thought that it was also interesting that the character Cassie actually had to go through many of the actual safe houses that Harriet Tubman used herself when going back and forth on the underground railroad. I thought that this book took a piece of history that could be considered complicated and made it easy and enjoyable for younger students to read about to gain an understanding of this piece in history.
Bonjour, Lonnie
This book I thought was a very good book. I liked the fact that this book covered many different things in history instead of focusing on one period. I also liked that some frenh language was used in the book because I believe that this would be a good way to introduce a student to a second language. I thought that the book covered a lot of different ideas but did so in such a way that it did not come off as boring. I liked that the book also focused a lot on interracial and inter-religious relationships. I thoguth that this was an interesting way to show students that all different people can get along with one another and learn to love each other.
Cassie's Word Quilt
I really liked this book and the way that it was written. I found the form to be a very interesting one. I thought that this book would be a good book to use for beginning readers becaue it uses words that are not too complicated and they are also paired with a picture so that the student could use the picture to help them figure out the word. I also liked that the first page would always have the pictures and the words on them for the student to practice before moving onto the next page in which the pictures and words were placed in their respective locations on the page. I just thought that this book was an interesting way for attacking reading.

The Sissy Duckling
I really enjoyed this story. I thought that the author did a really good job at telling it. I think that this book would be a good one to have in the classroom because it could show so many different things. I thought about having a little boy in my classroom who did not like to do all the things that the other boys liked to do, and I thought this book would show that he could still be true to himself if that is what made him happy. I also thought that this book would be a good one to use to show how people should respect differences among people because there might come a time when a person who is different from you is just the person that you need to help you.

Nappy Hair
I really liked this book. I think that this book is considered to be controversial because the word "nappy" has such a negative connotation within the African American community and whenever the word is used it is seen as a negative thing. I personally liked the fact that the storyteller was actually praising the little girl for having nappy hair. I thought that this book could do a lot for a little girls self esteem in a society where they are judged on superficial things such as their hair type. I think there is so much emphasis on changing the texture of a black woman's hair that black women have forgotten how beautiful and unique their natural hair is. Being a African American woman, I believe that this book did a great job of pointing out that unique factor.
Where the Wild Things Are
I really enjoyed this book. I thought that kids would really love the made up animals and the mysterious world that Max traveled to. I am not sure why this book is considered controversial because I personally did not see anything in the book that I would considered to be controversial. I think that this book is a great potrayl of how the minds of kids work. I remember being young and pretending that I had traveled to a far away land with lots of different animals and lots of different people so I am not sure what the problem is with this book. To call a book like this controversial to me is to say that a child's imagination is also controversial.
The Story of LIttle Black Sambo
I personally did not like this story at all. I thought that the story would have been the same story had the author not used a stereotype of African American people. I also did not like the way in which the pictures were constructed because they were made to look like the actual stereotype that the Sambo presented. I did not think that this name added anything to the story at all and it was actually a little hard to concentrate on the rest of the story because there was so much concentration on the fact that the little boy was black. I think that if the story would have been written without this stereotype it may have made the story a better read for me personally.
Daddy's Wedding
I thought that this book was very interesting. I can see why it is considered a controversial book because it is promoting the union of two people of the same sex and many people are not comfortable with things like that. I personally do not have a problem with the book, I actually think that it was a good idea. I think it is important for there to be books representative of all people. I also believe that this is a good idea for the kids who do have families who look like the one in the book. They will not feel like there family is completely weird or different and I think it will help to make them not feel alienated from the rest of their peers.

The Giver
I hought that this book was really interesting. The author did a really good job with the descriptions of what was going on in the book because I was able to picture them. I also thought that it was really easy to relate to the characters. I was always curious about what was going to happen next so it kept me reading. There was never a point in the book that I got bored which is good because I usually get bored easily. The one thing that I did not like was the ending, and it's not necessarily that I did not like the ending, I just wanted to know what happen as far as them making it to Elsewhere. I really enjoyed reading the book and I think kids would to because it would be so easy for them to relate to each of the characters.

Babymouse: Rockstar
This book is a cute graphic novel. I really liked the book and the illustrations that went along with the book. I also liked that the story seemed to be geared towards girls because most of the graphic novels are geared towards boys. I think kids enjoy these books because they are not overwhelemed by the words on the page because they are split up so it makes it more appealing to the eye.

Once Upon a Time, the End (asleep in 60 seconds)
This book has probably become one of my favorite books. I liked that the book went through many of the fairy tales but in abbriviated versions. I also liked that although the father in the book was telling stories to his daughter and those were the stories we were reading, there was also a second story that was going on about the girl and the father which was shown by using a different font. One of the things that I thought was really funny about the book was that the father made sure to make all of the stories end with the character falling asleep because he was trying to get his daughter to go to sleep so he could sleep. I really liked the end page becaue I thought it was funny that they both feel asleep at the same time and I liked the illustration on that page.
You Can't Take a Balloon Into The Metropolitan Museum
This book was really funny. I had never read a wordless story before and I thought I would not like them but this book proved me wrong. I really enjoyed being able to study the pictures and not worrying about the words that might be on the page. I also liked that the illustrator only put color on the things or people who were directly related to what was going on on that page. This gave me time to try and figure out what might happen next because I knew who or what it was going to involve. I also liked that throughout the whole book there was only one page that was completely in color. When I got to this page it kind of caught me off gaurd but it was a nice suprise and it still stuck to the illustators theme because the whole page was involved with what was going on in that page.
The True Story of the 3 Little Pigs
I have always enjoyed this book. When I was younger I thought that it was really interesting to hear the story from the wolf and I still think that it is funny today. I really liked the pictures and the way the illustrator played with the shading. The cover is also one of my favorite parts of the book because I realy liked the fact that it looks like a news paper article. One of the other things that I like about this story is that the reader is actually introduced to the wolf a few pages before he starts telling his own story. I thought that this was a very creative thing to do, it was kind of like the author gave the wolf a chance to plead his case and get out all the things that a person might think they already know about the story so they could listen to his side without any bias.
The Three Silly Billies
I really liked the way that this book incorporated a lot of the different fairy tales. I thought that it made the book much more interesting to read because I was always thinking about who would be coming next to join the three silly billies at the troll's bridge. I also really liked the pictures and thought that they added an element of comedy to the story. My favorite page was the page with little red riding hood dumping out her purse and seeing all the things that she had in it such as wolfbanex cream. I thought that this would be really funny especially if the reader knew the story of little red riding hood already.
Kate and the Beanstalk
This spin off of Jack and the beanstalk is very cute. I like the fact that it uses a girl to be the hero and fight off the giant. I thought that it was a good way to show children that there is no difference in gender and boys and girls can do the same things. One thing I would have liked to see was possibly changing all the characters around. For instance, the giant could have been a woman instead of a man since it was a man in Jack and the beanstalk. All together, I thought that this book was a very good book and I would definately want it in my classroom.
Hewitt Anderson's Great Big Life
The thing that attracted me to this book was the front cover. I liked the way the pictures were done. I really liked the traditional style of the pictures and the neutral colors that were used throughout the book. I also really liked the story, which reminded me of the tiger and mouse story that I wrote in highschool. I liked that this story focused on differences and how being different might actually be good for a person even if other people cant see that right away. I thought that this book would be very relateable to children since each child is different from the next in one way or another.
Who Made This Cake?
I really liked the way the illustrator played with the position of the pictures on the page. I liked that throughout the whole book everything seemed huge and when you get to the end of the book you realize that it is actually very small. I also really enjoyed the end pages and how they helped tell the story. In the front of the book, the end pages are of the workers going to work and at the end they are of the workers coming home from work. I thought that was very creative and it really made the story go on past the actual pages of the book. There were also a lot of humerous things in this book to me that I thought children may not realize but adults would and they would appreciate these things because I did.
What is a Wise Bird Like You Doing in a Silly Tale Like This?
This book was extremely funny to me. I enjoyed the bright colors and the non-traditional pictures the book used. I thought that the story was very funny and it seemed as if it did not fit together at times. Although I felt like the story was all over the place it was done in such a way that it kept me really interested in the book. I especially liked the end pages, which is where the story actually begins and gives you background information on the characters. This book also did a good job at using bubbles to make the characters talk and tying that into the story to give it kind of a comic book feel.
How to Take Your Grandmother to the Museum
This book was a really interesting book. It was filled with a lot of facts about lots of different things. I liked this book because it was an information book but it had a picture book feel to it. Sometimes when reading information books it begins to get boring but this book did not ever get boring. I found myself learning a lot of facts about things that I never knew existed. I especially liked the fact that there was more information about the things that were talked about in the book at the end of the book for futher reading and more information. I thought that this book would be a fun book to use to get students excited about a museum field trip or even about something like a science lesson.
Froggy Gets Dressed
I really enjoyed reading this book. It was filled with lots of funny things that I believe students would like. I especially enjoyed looking at the picutres and watching the frog get dressed. The repetition in the book was also very fun. Students would like this book because it would be easy for them to predict the things that are going to happen next. I also found myself thinking about the next thing that Froggy would have to put on so I am sure students would do the same thing. My favorite part was the end when Froggy was too tired from getting dressed to even go out and play. I thought that this book did a good job at keeping the reader interested.

The Watsons go to Birmingham- 1963
This book was one of my favorite books that I read in elementary school and is still on of my favorite books today. I like the fact that the book focuses on an event in black history that many people may not know about, the church bombing in Birmingham, Alabama in 1963 in which four little girls died and many other were injured. I think that this book is great for students to read because it gives them insight into what the world looked like years ago and it will give them a greater appreciation for the privilages they have today. I also like this book because many of the books that are made about Black History focuses on the things that were happening to adults and fail to recognize that children existed during this madness too. I think the book does a good job of provoking every emotion and it a great book for students to excerise thier imaginations.

A Picture book of Helen Keller
I thought that the pictures in this book did a great job showning the words that were on the page. I felt like a person could tell the story of this book without reading the words and only looking at the pictures. This book would be great for students who may have trouble reading words because they could easily look at the pictures and be able to make sense of what was going on in the story. I think that this is a great way to build confidence within a student.
Back of the Bus
The pictures in this book were really good. I am not sure what they were done with but I really like the way the pictures look as if they have texture. The colors are not really bright and catchy either, but I think that the way they were put together made for really lovely traditional styled pictures. I thought that this reaccount of what happened on the bus they day Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat as told through a little boys eyes was very interesting. All of the picture books that I have read before that are much like this one always have little girls as the person telling the story, so it was a nice change to have a boy tell it this time. I think that because the narrator of the story is a boy this would be a great way to get boys more interested in the things that Rosa Parks did and help them understand that what she did was to help men and women alike.
Bessie Smith and the Night Riders
This book written by Sue Stauffacher was a wonderful book, in my opinion. Although I did not know who Bessie Smith was before I read the book, the story really intrigued me. I really liked the fact that although the little girl in the book was not the "actual" hero, it is understood that things would not have gone so smoothly without her. The illustrations in this book are also wonderful. I really lkike the colors that were used for the characters clothing and how they complemeted the colors used for their skin. I actually think the cover of the book is what caught my eye in the first place.
A Man For All Seasons: The Life of George Washington Carver
I really liked the pictures in the book. There were not many bright colors used in the book but the book had really nice traditional pictures. I also really liked the pictures because they seemed realistic. This book was also very informative for me. I thought I knew a lot about George Washington Carver but this book taught me much more. I was very suprised to learn that he had been a professor at an Iowa College. I knew that he graduated from an Iowa college but I had never heard of him being a professor. I really thought this book did a great job of dipicting the life of George Washington Carver in a very interesting way.
Nicolous Copernicus: The Earth is a Planet
This book was really insightful for me. I knew who Copernicus was and I kind of knew what he did but this book really cleared up a lot of things for me. I also liked that fact that the book was a biography but it was written in picture book format. I think that when I would think of biographies I always thought about a chapter book or just a book without pictures. It was good for me to see that biographies can be written in all types of forms. I also really liked the pictures and the bright colors that were used thoughout the book, although at times it made it hard to read the words on the page. I think that this book is a great book because it can be used in so many ways for so many different things.
Plunk's Dreams
I really liked this story. I thought it was a really cute story about the relationship between a boy and his dog. I know that many children who have ever had a pet has wondered about the dreams that their pet is having. Especially when you see your dog running in his sleep. I thought that this book gave really creative accounts of what might be going on in a dog's dream. I also liked the fact that the little boy in the book was able to challenge his parents thoughts about the dogs dreams and come up with his own. I think it is really important to let children know that although adults may have more experience with things there is still room for them to come up with their own explanations of things and I thought that this book did a good job showing this.

Dracula Doesn't Rock and Roll
I really liked this book. I remember when I was younger and reading the Bailey School Kids and I always loved them. I think it was because they were kids who were always getting into some type of crazy situation and I always wondered what it would be like to be a Bailey Kid. I thought that this book was really good because I can remember back when I was younger and thinking that some of my teachers were a little strange and my friends and I would all get together to discuss that teacher and try to understand what made them so different. I think this book was just good for me because it made me take a trip down memory lane and remember all the fun times I had when I was in grade school.
Grandaddy and Janetta
This book was written like the other books, such as it was split up into chapters but I cant say that I liked this book as much. I thought that this book seemed much more like a chapter book than it did like a picture book. I felt like the book really lacked pictures. There were some pictures thoughout the book but many of them were small and not very interesting to look at. I thought that because the pictures were missing and because the pages were filled with a lot of text that it might be boring for the age group the the book intended to reach, which was five to eight years. I thought that the story was really good but I also thought that if it was meant to lack pictures then maybe it should have been written at a more advanced level so that older students could enjoy reading it.
Georgia Music
This book was also written by the same author, Helen V. Griffith, but I can not say that it was my favorite out of all of her books that I read. I really liked the book and how the sounds that you here in Georgia were used to make music but some of the other things with the book made it a harder read for me. I know that the characters in the book are the same characters as in the other book but neither of the characters have actual names in this book. I thought that it was really hard to get into the book and relate to the characters as actual people because they did not have names and I think that this also made the story seem a little dull to me at times. Once I was able to get passed this, I did realize that I liked the pictures and that this book was different than the other ones because it did not have chapters. I thought that this was a nice change because it actually felt like a regular picture book which might be good for some students.
Grandaddy's Stars
This book was much like the last book that I blogged about, mainly because it was written by the same person. I really like that this book had chapters and I also thought it was really nice that it focused on the same characters that are in all the other books. I thought that this book was really funny because I could relate to the things that were going on. I really liked that the book played up the relationship between a girl and her grandfather because that is not something that is common in story books. I also really liked the pictures in this book because they were much like the pictures in the last book. One thing that I thought this book would be good for is using the imagination. I think sometimes we get so wrapped up into the real world that we forget to even use our imagination. I think this book did a very good job at getting your imagination working.
Grandaddy's Place
I thought that this was a really cute story about a little girl experiencing things for the first time. I really liked the way the pictures were done for this book. They were really fomal and were very easy to look at. They did not have any wild colors or things like that but I still thought they did a lot for the story. The other interesting thing about this book is that although it was a picture book, it still had chapters. I thought that this was really unique and would make younger students feel like they could read the same type of books, books with different chapters, as the older students.

The Berenstain Bears In the Freaky Funhouse
I thought that this book was really interesting. I really liked the fact that it highlighted kids. It showed that even young kids can be important when it comes to helping out in the community. I also liked that the story was able to keep my attention the whole time. One thing that I did noticed that bothered me a little was that at times it did not seem like parts of the story needed to be there. They seemed to be more like fillers and they did not really add anything to the story. Other than that, I believe all in all that this is a good childrens book.

Happy Birthday Dolores
The story in this book was really cute. The first thing that caught my eye was the front cover of the book. I thought that the picture was really funny and the rest of the pictures thoughout the book were also funny. I really liked the book but I could not pinpoint what the message behind the story was. I think that this book would be a good book to have in the classroom for students if they wanted a book with a funny story and funny pictures to match.
David gets in Trouble
I thought that this story was really cute. I really liked how the book incorporated all the excuses that kids tend to use when they get into trouble. While readingthis book, I found myself laughing because I could remember back when I was a kid and would use those same excuses, and even find myself using some of them now. I thought that this was just a great book because everybody could relate to it in one way or another.
A long trip to Z
I thought that this story was very unique. I liked how the book actually made the alphabet into a trip for the students to follow. Although I really liked the trip idea, I thought that the story could have been pulled together a lot better. At times, I felt like things were just thrown into the story because that was the only thing that the author could come up with that began with that letter. I personally found this to be a little confusing at times and the flow of the story was also affected by this.
"Stand Back," said the elephant, "I'm going to sneeze".
I really liked this book and thought that it was an really easy read. Most of the words rhymed which gave the book a nice flow. Also, because a lot of the words rhymed, I thought that it would be a good book to use if someone was trying to teach ending sounds. I also liked the way the book incorporated facts about many different animals but did it in a fun way.
Jazzy Miz Mozetta
I thought that this book was a very funny book and would be good for children to read. The story was a very simple story and the message behind the story is a lesson that all children should learn. I thought that the illustrations for the story were really good too. They were very simple and drawn in a way that students would be able to figure out the words on the page by looking at the pictures. I also thought it did a good job of bring in different generations and showing how one could learn from the other. I definately think this book would be a great book to do some type of music assignment with students since it focuses on dancing. I would recommend this book to anybody who is looking for a good and funny book to teach the age old lesson that you should not judge a book by its cover.
